From a struggling 12-seat diner inherited from his father-in-law in 1927, Joe Gilbert built himself a Kansas City restaurant empire. But the Dean, as they call him, was more than a restaurateur. To the thousands who worked for him, he was a mentor. To our city's thriving restaurant community, he was a leader. To each and every regular, he was a friend. In a city full of culinary icons, he was a bona fide legend. And he showed all of us just what hospitality and fine dining meant.

All the way into his eighties, Mr. Joe this snappily-dressed silver fox kept growing his empire, reaching 48 restaurants. And even still, he never forgot a cook's name or neglected to tend to the tiniest details. At J.Gilbert's, it is this genuine care for people and legendary love of hospitality that inspires us today. And for all of that, we fondly refer to him as "The Dean."

PATRICK CLEARY

Patrick has been a brand ambassador of J. Gilbert’s and its sister concepts for more than 40 years. During this time, he's traveled to from one end of the country to the other, elevating the standards at every location that's lucky enough to have him, including St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Milwaukee and currently as Managing Partner at J. Gilbert's in McLean, VA. He's worked in every facet of the restaurant, including years of leadership as the Executive Chef. This experience gives Patrick a step above the rest in his ability to connect and positively impact both his team members and his guests. True hospitality and a passion for the community hold a very special place in Pat's heart. Be sure to ask for him when you visit … he'd love to be able to meet and get to know you.

MARC KENNEDY

Originally from Massachusetts, Marc cut his culinary teeth at an early age working in an eclectic array of New England Inns and Restaurants. To supplement his work with New England flavors and techniques, and to help build his culinary palate, he has mentored under Chef/Owners from around the world and cuisines – such as Dutch, Indonesian, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, South African and Mediterranean. Marc relocated to Virginia in 1996 and has worked at many D.C. area restaurants as Executive Chef. He joined J.Gilbert’s in 2016 as Executive Chef and is excited to bring his passion for food to the local community.
